The best – and one of the best-written – narrative nonfiction books I know is Caroline Moorehead’s *Dunant’s Dream: War, Switzerland and the History of the Red Cross.* I re-read that book from time to time, I love it so. I’m not a person who uses the word “inspirational” lightly or often, but damn if Moorehead’s book isn’t inspiring – or at least, many of the people she writes about are. It’s a massive book, but she’s such a skilled writer that it reads smoothly and quickly, almost like a novel. Even amidst the horrors of non-action during the Holocaust, probably the most wrenching part of the book to read, Moorehead includes story after story of individuals and small groups doing everything they can, including risking their own lives, to help others live, and live well. It’s a fantastic book.

I am totally behind this! But don’t rule out all academic presses or publishing companies that are associated with universities. There might be one in North Carolina that just might be interested. I can’t say for sure, but the couple people I know there would probably be excited about it.
